Pet-loss guidance

Is it normal to grieve a pet this much?

Why pet loss can feel overwhelming and when extra support may help.

Yes. A pet may be part of your daily routine, your sense of home and your closest source of non-judgmental comfort. The loss can affect sleep, appetite, concentration and motivation.

Grief does not follow a timetable. Some people feel intense pain immediately; others feel numb and react later. Try to protect basic routines, speak with people who understand the bond, and avoid judging the depth of your response.

Seek professional support when grief remains unmanageable, you cannot function safely, or thoughts of self-harm appear. A family doctor, counsellor or pet-loss support group can help.
